Things were contained in Australia up until the 23rd June, 2020 when Melbourne exploded with community based transfer as a result of the Hotel Quarantine and the less than reputable security guards who were manning the hotel guests. Australia had 7,474 cases and 102 deaths at that stage, and now it has bumped up to 17,936 cases and 208 deaths and counting.
New South Wales started to have community outbreak as a result of infected people from Victoria travelling through New South Wales. Queensland had been doing really well until three girls bought the virus back from Melbourne and entered Queensland under deceptive and misleading information resulting in our first community outbreaks last week. The Health Department are onto it straight away however these people went to work, restaurants, shopping centres, cafes etc. in 11 different suburbs in Brisbane so next week is critical for Queensland.
Luckily for us we are on the Northside of Brisbane and not the Southside of Brisbane where this break out occurred however I'm more alert at the moment than usual. World wide it's so hard to think of where things will be in 6 months time. I feel safe in Australia however both the Victoria, New South Wales and now the latest Queensland issue all could have been prevented which is the worst thing about it. Stay safe everyone and here's hoping Victorians get through and break this cycle. I have relatives in Melbourne and it's been a very long year for them all.
Now onto some brighter more fun things like food here's what's been happening at our place lately.
Next time you have a movie night or just want to indulge in this Caramel Popcorn I can highly recommend it as it only took 10 minutes and it was delicious. Using corn kernels from the bulk food store and butter and golden syrup to make the caramel and enjoying this snack with no preservatives and chemicals. Just make sure you cook the caramel for the time so that it becomes sticky and sticks to the popcorn. The recipe is on the Additive Free Lifestyle website.
Zucchini slice for dinner and school lunches.
I personally love this chocolate cake recipe which you put all the ingredients in any order and mix it together. Then you can put the mixture into what ever tins you want. One cake tin and muffin tin or two cake tins or all muffins. This recipe freezes really well and doesn't need icing you can just sprinkle some icing sugar over the top. You can also make it in a loaf tin and make slices for the freezer.
I made this "Soft Scrub Cleaning Paste" and used it on my pan after making Zucchini Slice as it always gets stuff stuck to it after cooking and nothing has been able to get it off until now.
Kathy, yes the dreaded virus is certainly a concern particularly in Melbourne. We now have a case here due to a consular official returning from Kabul not having to go into hotel isolation and arrived in Maroochydore before heading home to Toowoomba to self isolate. Hopefully he does. You have made some yummy food. I really should get motivated and make something different but with just the two us us here it is easy to just make the same thing all the time 🙄
ReplyDeleteYes I heard about the Toowoomba case and agree with Anna P about everyone going into hotel quarantine when they come back from overseas regardless. I also agree anyone from Melbourne heading back to Sydney needs to hotel quarantine as it's a sure thing they will have Covid-19. I think we will see be okay here in South East Queensland and locking down all the retirement villages regardess and having staff only work at one was absolutely the right thing to do. Stay safe and have a good week.
DeleteI'm sure that chocolate cake still tasted good, Kathy! I baked this morning and made a Weetbix loaf and another silverbeet impossible pie. We had that for lunch with salads. I am feeling for my sister who lives in Melbourne and all the other people there who are going to have to endure very strict lockdown restrictions to try to get things under control again. It's a very sobering situation which I really hope is not what happens here. Stay safe and well. MegXx
ReplyDeleteI'm yet to make an immpossible pie I'll have to look up a recipe for it. Melbourne certainly is a very scary place right now however they need to do serious lockdown there is no other way. Have a good week.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that the Covid cases are increasing in your area. It's a mess here in the states, as I'm sure you've heard. I'm not sure what this fall is going to bring for us. I use a homemade soft scrub recipe that's very similar to the one you linked to and love it. I also use it to clean the sinks and shower. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe scrub works wonders doesn't it...stay safe over there too Staci.
DeleteI always love seeing you delicious looking food Kathy. You are a fabulous cook. We all have flops sometimes but usually they can be rescued and made into something else. I have a favourite chocolate cake that I use all the time, because it is always reliable.
ReplyDeleteThe scrub looks like it works well, thank you for sharing how it is made.
We are getting more covid cases everyday here in South Australia. I am not happy because people refuse to isolate when returning home from Victoria. They are putting the vulnerable at risk as well as the health system and all the workers!
Have a lovely rest of the week,
xTania
The kids ate the chocolate cake and I had one piece. I think anyone going interstate regardless has to self isolate and I don't understand why these people aren't taking it seriously.
DeleteThose numbers are indeed scary and tell a terrible story when put so starkly ... I'm glad you included some happier things in your post, and I will be trying your chocolate cake and your scrub recipes :). Over here, numbers are rising in different parts of the UK, and there are local lockdowns. Goodness knows what will happen when our schools go back this week. Most of us have no confidence in our current government, and if you walked through our small town at the weekend (a holiday), you'd never have guessed there was a pandemic - no social distancing and barely a mask in sight :(.
ReplyDeleteLife certainly is very different for everyone in the world at the moment and we are doing well compared to the rest of the world even with Victoria in lockdown with outbreaks. Have a good week.
